Internship & Leadership Positions
Interns help keep TABLE running smoothly. By interning at TABLE, you can gain excellent experience for a future in the non-profit sector or for other jobs that may require the skills you can learn at TABLE.
Many of our interns come through UNC’s Bonner Leaders Program, however, we do periodically need more. Internships are unpaid, typically 10-12 hours per week for one semester at a time, and can encompass a wide variety of tasks including:
- Assisting with administrative and office work
- Supporting special projects
- Helping with our nutrition education programs
- Leading volunteer shifts
- Supporting PR and Marketing activities
You should be a strong communicator, independent, organized and able to take initiative. Experience with donor and/or customer relations are also beneficial. PR/Marketing interns should also have some sort of graphic design or photography skill and/or be in a related major.

TABLE has multiple volunteer shifts every week through both our SnackChef and Weekend Meal Backpack Programs which are led by volunteer Team Leaders. We greatly depend on them! Leaders are responsible for arriving early for the shift to set up and to greet incoming volunteers, sharing with volunteers about what we do at TABLE and training them on the day’s tasks, directing the shift, ensuring all tasks are completed, cleaning up at the end, and staying until the last volunteer is gone. SnackChef leaders also are responsible for teaching a lesson and leading an activity with kids at afterschool centers (lesson plan is provided for you).
Most, though not all, Team Leaders are UNC students (sophomores and older) with prior volunteer experience at TABLE. This is a semester-long weekly commitment. Having a car is beneficial to a SnackChef leadership position, but not required. Leaders should be highly responsible, punctual, and comfortable speaking in front of a group. We provide training and background checks for all new leaders.
