Weekend Meal Backpack Program
During the school year, TABLE provides bags of healthy non-perishables, fresh produce, and at some sites fresh milk to our kids. Food is delivered every Thursday to schools, afterschool centers and door-to-door in select communities, ensuring children have plenty to eat when they do not have access to school meals on the weekends.
In addition to healthy non-perishables, fresh produce is provided year round such as baby carrots, apples and oranges. When in season, blueberries, spinach, sweet potatoes, zucchini and many other fruits and vegetables are also provided. Fresh pints of milk are available weekly at select locations thanks to our friends at Maple View Farm. The bags of food are delivered classrsoom-to-classroom at most locations and placed in kids’ backpacks to carry home. Prior to Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break and the start of summer, extra food is delivered to help kids during these longer stretches without school meals. We also provide emergency food assistance, when feasible and safe for our volunteers, during unplanned school closings.
