How does it work?
During the school year when children are at home remote learning, TABLE delivers food directly to children’s homes. To effectively and efficiently reach the 700+ children we serve, volunteers deliver food Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week to an average of 230 children each day.
When children are attending school in-person, food is delivered every Thursday to schools, afterschool centers and door-to-door in select communities. The bags are delivered classroom-to-classroom at most locations and placed in kids backpacks to carry home.
TABLE also provides children with weekly bags of food through the long summer months when receiving additional food is even more critical for the children we serve.
Whether kids are remote learning or in school, prior to Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break and the start of summer, extra food is delivered to help kids during these longer stretches without school meals.
What is included in each bag?
TABLE’s bags include 10 meals and snacks that consist of healthy non-perishables such as oatmeal, individual cereal, peanut butter, pasta, tomato sauce, canned tuna/chicken, granola bars, and milk or juice. In addition, fresh produce is provided year round such as baby carrots, apples, oranges, blueberries, sweet potatoes, lettuce, zucchini, and bell peppers.
While children are remote learning, once a month they also receive an interactive nutritional education lesson. These lessons provide children with a variety of information about healthy eating teaching them valuable skills necessary to make educated choices when it comes to food and nutrition.
