2018 marks TABLE’s 10th anniversary of feeding hungry children in Chapel Hill and Carrboro and we couldn’t be more excited! We have so much to be grateful for this year and to celebrate.
Since TABLE was founded, we have offered “a place at the TABLE” to increasing numbers of local hungry children. Our programs have grown tremendously and continue to reach more and more children every week. Check out these numbers!
Since 2008, TABLE has…
- Grown the Weekend Meal Backpack program from 12 children at one school to 650 children at more than 30 partner locations
- Delivered more than 100,000 bags filled with healthy food to local kids
- Bagged more than 500,000 pounds of non-perishables and fresh food
- Provided nutrition education to 1020 kids over 352 SnackChef sessions
- Logged nearly 30,000 volunteer hours
To commemorate these milestones, TABLE hosted a town-wide birthday party on April 7th and joined forces with local partners including the Town of Chapel Hill and more than 35 businesses helping to raise awareness for childhood hunger in our community.
Festivities kicked off at the TABLE offices with an open house where Mayor Pam Hemminger joined TABLE staff, board members, volunteers and community members to present TABLE with a Town of Chapel Hill Proclamation declaring the day, TABLE Day.
Everyone who attended the open house enjoyed refreshments and were given the opportunity to fill a bag with non-perishables for our kids.
The celebration continued throughout the day with local businesses donating proceeds, hosting food drives, selling signature drinks and more! TABLE balloons were seen all over Chapel Hill and Carrboro on sidewalks and inside local establishments. THANK YOU to the business community for joining together in support of TABLE’s mission to feed local hungry children.
We are so proud of the impact TABLE, our volunteers and the community has had on helping to end childhood hunger in our neighborhoods. We look forward to an even brighter future! From everyone at TABLE, thank YOU!
