On-Site and Delivery Shifts

TABLE depends on up to 100 volunteers each week to participate in our on-site and delivery shifts. The volunteers at these shifts help us sort, shelve, package, and deliver bags of food through our TABLE@Home program.

  • Sorting – Volunteers check for expiration dates, dented or damaged packaging, and then organize food by type.
  • Bagging – Volunteers are assigned a specific job to fill bags with non-perishable and fresh food. 
  • Delivering – Volunteers meet at TABLE to load up their own vehicles with bags of food to deliver directly to children’s homes. Delivery shifts are available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. 

Leadership Positions

TABLE has multiple volunteer shifts every week to support our TABLE@Home program which are led by volunteer Team Leaders. Leaders are responsible for arriving early for the shift to set up and to greet incoming volunteers, sharing with volunteers about what we do at TABLE and training them on the day’s tasks, directing the shift, ensuring all tasks are completed, cleaning up at the end, and staying until the last volunteer is gone.

Many (but not all) of our Team Leaders are UNC students (sophomores and older) with prior volunteer experience at TABLE. This is a semester-long weekly commitment. Leaders should be highly responsible, punctual, and comfortable speaking in front of a group. We provide training and background checks for all new leaders.
