2017: A Year of Record Breaking Moments at TABLE Aug 13, 2020 | 2:02am
Everyday we are reminded of how lucky we are to work in such an amazing community. Volunteers, individual donors, local businesses, churches and organizations all came together in 2017 to help us feed more kids than ever! We wanted to share with you, our neighbors, the accomplishments and milestones we achieved together and say thank you!
Most Kids Fed in TABLE History
We are so happy to report that we were able to deliver 24,948 bags in 2017 – a record breaking number! Between our Weekend Meal Backpack Program and Summer TABLE, we made 52 food deliveries to children throughout the year.
Pounds, Pounds & More Pounds
Every bag we specially assemble and deliver includes a variety of non-perishables and seasonal, fresh produce. In 2017, our bags weighed in at 89,279 pounds of non-perishables and 50,188 pounds of fresh produce. That resulted in a lot of full bellies and happy, healthy kids in Chapel Hill and Carrboro!
Through TABLE’s SnackChef Program 325 kids learned the skills to prepare healthy snacks with fresh, nutritious food. A huge thank you to the many volunteers who lead 113 SnackChef sessions!
New Digs for TABLE
We began 2017 by moving into our new facility at 209 E. Main Street in Carrboro. While our home on Weaver Street will always be a part of TABLE, we couldn’t be happier with our new location. With nearly 2,000 square feet of additional space, we are able to store more food, host more volunteers, grow our programs and, most importantly, feed more kids!
Team TABLE Grew by Two
We not only moved into a larger space we also grew TABLE’s team by adding two new employees. Rosario Vila and Suzanne Tormollen, both long time volunteers, now work part-time driving TABLE’s marketing and communications activities. We now have six amazing women all devoted to ensuring the kids of Chapel Hill and Carrboro are fed every week, all year long!
Hat Tip to Our Volunteers
Another record breaker for TABLE is the number of hours our tireless volunteers donated in 2017. Volunteers logged more than 7600 hours helping us assemble bags, deliver food, stock shelves, prepare snacks, and represent TABLE at community events. They are the engine that keeps TABLE going and we couldn’t be more thankful to have them!
Reaching Higher Thanks to Community Donations
We are so humbled by the donations we received in 2017 from individuals, local businesses, churches and schools. The monetary and food donations go directly to feeding kids in our community and have helped us reach these milestones. Whether the donation came through attending fundraising events, hosting food drives, or becoming TABLE Setters and making monthly monetary donations, you are what keeps us moving forward!
Thank you Chapel Hill and Carrboro for an amazing 2017. Here’s to breaking more records in 2018!
